India’s women’s cricket team has been nominated for the prestigious 2026 Laureus World Team of the Year Award, marking the first time a women’s cricket side has been recognised in the team category by the global honours body. The nomination was officially confirmed by Laureus Sport on March 3, 2026, following India’s stunning first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title win in November 2025.

India’s unforgettable journey to the top began at the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, where the team produced a series of memorable performances under captain Harmanpreet Kaur to lift their maiden World Cup trophy. The turning point in their campaign came following a record-breaking semi-final victory over Australia, where India successfully chased down a target of 339, the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history.

“In their Cricket World Cup semi-final against Australia, the India Women’s Cricket Team pulled off the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history (339) – before winning their first title against South Africa and are the first women’s cricket team to be nominated for this Award," Laureus Sport said in a press release.

In achieving this milestone, India join an elite shortlist featuring England’s women’s football team, the European Ryder Cup team, Paris Saint-Germain, McLaren Formula 1, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
