Mitchell Marsh has confirmed he will retire from Sheffield Shield cricket at the end of the current season. His decision will bring his first-class career with Western Australia to a close. While the Australian allrounder has retired from Sheffield Shield cricket, he has left the door open for a possible return to Test cricket, with the Ashes looming as a potential opportunity.

"It has been an honour to play Sheffield Shield cricket for WA. Right now I am deeply committed to the group and the Scorchers. Playing for WA has been a huge part of my life and I plan to give back in any way possible long into the future," Marsh said in a statement by Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA).

Marsh has plundered 2,744 runs and taken 82 wickets in 55 Shield matches.

"Mitch embodies everything about what it means to be a Sheffield Shield player for Western Australia. From playing alongside him to coaching him in more recent times, he's given his all for his state," WA head coach Adam Voges said.

"It's been a privilege to watch him progress from Sheffield Shield to being a successful international cricketer for Australia. He's an outstanding character on and off the field and it's been a pleasure to play a part in his journey."
