Umpires announced for T20 World Cup Semi-Finals
The officiating teams for the knockout stage of the Men’s T20 World Cup have been confirmed, setting the stage for two high-profile semi-finals in Kolkata and Mumbai. For the first semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand on Wednesday, March 4, umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf will take charge on the field at the Eden Gardens. Illingworth brings valuable recent experience, having officiated South Africa’s semi-final clash against Afghanistan in the previous edition of the tournament.
Wharf, meanwhile, also stood in New Zealand’s group-stage victory over Afghanistan earlier in this year’s competition. Supporting the on-field officials in Kolkata will be Nitin Menon as the third umpire, with Rod Tucker serving as the fourth umpire. Former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath has been appointed match referee for the match.
The second semi-final, scheduled for March 5 in Mumbai between India and England, will be overseen on the field by Chris Gaffaney and Allahuddien Paleker. Gaffaney previously officiated when the two sides met at the same stage in the 2024 edition of the tournament. Paleker has also been active in this year’s competition, standing in two of England’s matches and in India’s win over the Netherlands. Adrian Holdstock will be the third umpire, while Paul Reiffel will serve as the fourth umpire. Andy Pycroft will be the match referee.
