"Snicko needs to be sacked": Mitchell Starc fumes

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has reignited the long-running debate over the use of Snicko, calling for the technology to be sacked following major controversy on day two of the third Ashes Test. Starc's frustration boiled over after a pair of decisions involving England batter Jamie Smith created chaos. He was heard saying on stump microphones that "Snicko needs to be sacked."
The controversy began when Smith, facing a sharp bouncer from Australian captain Pat Cummins, attempted a hook shot but appeared to miss the ball. The delivery carried through to Usman Khawaja at first slip, prompting Australian players to appeal for a catch.
However, the umpires showed reluctance and opted for off-field help. Replays, supported by Snicko, showed the ball had struck Smith’s helmet rather than his glove or bat before being taken by Khawaja. Following that, the batter was allowed to continue. Meanwhile, Australian players were left incensed.
“Snicko needs to be sacked,” Mitchell Starc was heard saying on stump microphones.
“That’s the worst technology there is. They make a mistake the other day and they make another mistake today.”
However, the drama did not end there. In Cummins’ next over, Smith was again at the centre of attention when another delivery passed close to his bat and was collected by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. This time, on-field umpire Nitin Menon did not give an on-field decision but immediately referred the incident upstairs. The third umpire relied on Snicko, which showed a noticeable spike as the ball passed the bat, and ruled the decision in Australia's favour despite inconclusive visuals.
