Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have taken a major decision ahead of the Women’s Premier League by appointing former Australia legspinner Kristen Beams as their spin-bowling coach for the 2026 season. Beams brings with her a wealth of experience and tremendous understanding of the game. She has also worked in the WBBL and The Hundred. Beams represented Australia in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is between 2014 and 2017.

Beams will work closely with head coach Lisa Keightley, who begins her first season with MI after a successful three-year stint with Delhi Capitals. Mumbai's support staff is further bolstered by legendary former India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who continues in her role as bowling coach and mentor.

"It's an incredible opportunity to work with someone like a Jhulan Goswami, one of the greats of the game, somebody I played cricket against. [It's an] incredible culture...that they've developed a winning culture over a really long period of time, but a family that's what you hear everyone talk about that this group is so tight-knit, and it's a family and it's what you want to be a part of," Beams said.

"And I think as a coach coming in, that's exactly what you want to be able to do, is to walk into an environment that feels really tight-knit, and a team that knows how to win."

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign on January 9 against RCB.
