Pakistan’s pace sensation Shaheen Afridi will play no further role in Brisbane Heat’s Big Bash League (BBL) campaign after picking up a knee issue during his most recent outing for the team. The injury has brought a premature end to his BBL stint. Meanwhile, Pakistan have maintained a cautious approach, keeping in mind the upcoming T20I World Cup, which is over five weeks away. Taking a preventive measure, Pakistan have withdrawn Shaheen from the remainder of the BBL season.

Afridi left the field during Brisbane Heat’s previous match against Adelaide Strikers after experiencing discomfort in his knee. Subsequent medical assessments confirmed that the left-arm fast bowler had suffered a knee cartilage injury.

"After consulting with the Pakistan Cricket Board's medical staff during the past 24 hours, it was agreed that Shaheen would cut short his Big Bash League stint to return home for further treatment ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup," the Heat said in a statement.

Shaheen Afridi expressed disappointment over not being able to take further part in the competition.

“I have enjoyed myself a lot playing for Brisbane and I am sad that I will not be able to finish the season with the team. I am massively thankful to the Heat fans for showering me with immense love and support. I am also grateful for the support of the team and their amazing hospitality," Afridi said in a statement.

“The BBL was everything I had heard it would be – lots of good, skilful cricket. I have enjoyed the challenge. I will be cheering for the team while recovering from my unexpected injury and I hope our paths cross again,” he said
