"Not showing any signs of game management": Herschelle Gibbs raises questions on Dewald Brevis’ poor form

Former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs has questioned Dewald Brevis’ recent performances. Brevis, who is considered one of the brightest young talents in South African cricket, is enduring a massive dip in form. His latest poor performance came during an SA20 clash between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
Chasing a challenging target of 189, Pretoria found themselves under pressure when Brevis walked in to bat. However, the young batter’s stay was brief, as he scored 12 runs off five deliveries before being dismissed. Gibbs pointed out that Brevis has already played enough T20 cricket across leagues and competitions, but he has yet to show consistency and the ability to adapt his approach based on match situations.
"Would love to know what the coaches are saying to this Brevis boy , his not showing any signs of game management even though he’s played plenty t20s already," Gibbs wrote in his post on X.
With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 scheduled to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka, Brevis’ form is becoming a talking point. Brevis burst onto the scene with eye-catching performances at the junior level and immediately earned a reputation as a future star. However, he has been unable to live up to the promise in the past encounters.
