Rishabh Pant ruled out of New Zealand ODIs

India have suffered a setback ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant ruled out due to a side strain. The injury occurred during a practice session on the eve of the opening match, forcing the team management to make a late change to the squad.
Pant, who has been working his way back into the side, was undergoing final preparations when he experienced discomfort in his side while batting in the nets at the BCA Stadium. Medical assessments later confirmed a strain, prompting the team’s medical staff to advise rest and rehabilitation. As a precautionary measure, Pant was withdrawn from the entire ODI series.
"Pant felt a sudden onset [of] discomfort in his right lateral abdominal area while batting in the nets during India's practice session on Saturday afternoon at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara," a BCCI statement said.
"He was taken for MRI scans immediately and the BCCI medical team had a detailed discussion with an expert on his clinical and radiological findings. Pant has been diagnosed with a side strain (oblique muscle tear) and is subsequently ruled out of the ODI series."
India, meanwhile, have named Dhruv Jurel as Pant’s replacement.
