West Indies name squad for Afghanistan T20Is, Brandon King to lead in Shai Hope's absence

West Indies have revealed a robust 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, kicking off their preparations for the upcoming T20I World Cup 2026. The series, which comes less than a month before the T20 World Cup, will play a massive role in West Indies' readiness for the showpiece event. 

All three matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates from 19 January. Brandon King will lead the side in the absence of Shai Hope, who is unavailable due to his commitment to the ongoing SA20. West Indies have given a maiden international call-up to Quentin Sampson, who has been impressive in the domestic circuit. 

Meanwhile, senior players Jason Holder, Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd have been allowed rest. Nonetheless, the squad features promising names such as Alick Athanaze, Shamar Joseph, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie and Shimron Hetmyer.
