Sri Lanka have been forced into a late change to their T20 World Cup squad, with fast bowler Pramod Madushan replacing Eshan Malinga following the latter’s injury setback. Malinga’s availability for the tournament had been under serious doubt after he suffered a shoulder injury during the second T20 International against England earlier this month.

The incident occurred in dramatic fashion during the rain-affected match. Malinga was bowling the first delivery after play resumed when he immediately showed signs of discomfort. The severity of the injury ruled him out of the remainder of the game, and he subsequently missed the third T20I as well. Meanwhile, Madushan has featured in eight T20Is for Sri Lanka since making his debut in 2022. His most recent appearance in the format came in 2023, and across his outings, he has claimed 12 wickets. Sri Lanka will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 8, facing Ireland in Colombo.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Pavan Rathnayake, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, Pramod Madushan
