Scotland, delivering a thrilling performance, defeated Italy by 73 runs on Monday at Eden Gardens in the seventh match of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, ruining the hopes of Italy in their first-ever appearance at the global event. Asked to bat, Scotland posted a powerful total of 207/4 in 20 overs, following an explosive innings of 84 from George Munsey and a strong 41 from Brandon McMullen.

Setting the tempo early, Scotland batters maintained their assault till the 20th over, putting the side in a comfortable position early on. Italy, making their T20 World Cup debut, struggled to contain Scotland’s aggressive batting display, with their bowling toiling hard to remain unsuccessful.

Chasing the target, Italy were bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs. There was, however, brief resistance from Ben Manenti, who scored a resilient 52, but Scotland’s bowling attack, particularly Michael Leask, who grabbed 4 for 17, played a pivotal role in dismantling the Italian batting lineup. The loss represents a sour beginning for Italy’s T20 World Cup journey. Moreover, they suffered a massive setback during the fourth over of the match after their captain, Wayne Madsen, suffered a shoulder dislocation.
