Indian leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy has expressed confidence that the left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma should return to the playing XI for India’s much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on Sunday in the T20 World Cup in Colombo. Abhishek’s maiden appearance at a T20 World Cup has been anything but smooth. Making his tournament debut against the USA, Sharma had a disappointing start, registering a golden duck.

Later, Abhishek was ruled out of India’s match against Namibia due to illness. A stomach bug forced him to spend the night in hospital. However, there have been encouraging signs since. Abhishek was spotted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, present in the dugout during India’s match against Namibia on Thursday. More importantly, according to Chakravarthy, Abhishek has resumed practice sessions.

"I think he will play the next match. I don't know. As far as I have spoken to him, he looks good. He did some practice today. He said he is on the way," Varun said.

Meanwhile, in Abhishek's absence, India fielded Sanju Samson at the top of the order alongside Ishan Kishan to open the innings, where he smashed 22 off 8 balls, cracking three sixes in his fluent knock. The upcoming encounter against Pakistan will be intensely competitive, and Abhishek will be crucial for India at the top.
