"We want to play fearless cricket": Tilak Varma on India's mindset ahead of the West Indies clash

Following India's splendid victory against Zimbabwe, Indian batter Tilak Varma spoke about India's approach, describing it as 'fearless' as they prepare to face West Indies in a must-win Super Eight face-off on Sunday in Kolkata. After their brutal 76-run loss against South Africa, India made a marvellous comeback with a comprehensive 72-run win over Zimbabwe on Thursday in Chennai. Tilak, who scored an unbeaten 44 off 16 balls, emphasised that the team’s mental approach, especially after watching West Indies’ game against South Africa, has played a crucial role.
“After the last game, we spoke about our brand of cricket that we played last year. And also the New Zealand series and South Africa series, the way we played. The message was simple — smile, enjoy, and go all out," Tilak said at the press conference.
“We want to play fearless cricket — the brand we have played since last year. The same intent we want to keep in the next game as well and going further in the tournament. If the wicket is not good, we will adjust and keep the intensity on," he said.
Tilak Varma also touched upon his superb knock, saying that he is always ready to step up.
“I always say that whatever team needs, I'm up for it. So I've done the same role for the last four years in IPL for Mumbai Indians, and also I've done a few games for the Indian team. So I'm up for it. Whatever the team needs, I'm up. And according to the situation, I can adjust. But as I said before I was just waiting for one innings. So I am really grateful to God for that. Right time it has been given, but I am up for it. I am pretty confident now that going forward I can win the games for the team,” Tilak said.
