Ravi Shastri stand to be unveiled at Wankhede Stadium

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that a Level 1 stand below the press box at the iconic Wankhede Stadium will be named in honour of Ravi Shastri. The decision was finalised during the Apex Council meeting held on Friday, marking a significant tribute to one of Mumbai and India’s most prominent cricketing figures. Shastri’s journey in cricket began in Mumbai’s fiercely competitive domestic circuit, where he built a reputation as a dependable all-rounder.
Over the years, Shastri represented India in 80 Test matches and 150 One Day Internationals. Shastri’s impact on Indian cricket extended even further during his tenure as head coach from 2017 to 2021. During this period, India finished runners-up in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, reached the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, and endured a disappointing league-stage exit at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
"Mumbai cricket is built on the foundation laid by our stalwarts. It is our responsibility to honour those who have brought pride to the city and the nation. Naming the Level 1 Stand below the Press Box after Ravi Shastri is a tribute to his immense contribution as a player, leader and coach," MCA president Ajinkya Naik.
"Similarly, dedicating gates at Wankhede Stadium to Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar and Diana Edulji ensures that every fan who walks into the stadium is reminded of the legends who shaped our glorious cricketing heritage. These decisions reflect MCA's commitment to celebrating its past while inspiring future generations," Naik said.
Meanwhile, MCA has also approved naming three gates at the Wankhede Stadium after Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji.
