BCCI provides update on Rinku Singh's availability for West Indies clash
The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Devajit Saikia, has confirmed that left-handed batter Rinku Singh will rejoin the Indian squad in Kolkata on Saturday ahead of their Super 8s match against West Indies in Men's T20 World Cup on Sunday. Rinku had rushed home following the passing of his father, Khanchand, late Thursday night after a prolonged battle with liver cancer. According to reports, Khanchand had been admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21 after his health deteriorated badly. Despite being placed on ventilator support, he passed away in the early hours of Friday.
“Rinku Singh will join the team tomorrow in Kolkata,” BCCI secretary Saikia told news agency IANS.
Earlier in the week, he had briefly left from national duties when his father’s condition worsened before rejoining the Indian squad ahead of their match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday. Although Rinku was available for selection in that match, he did not feature in the playing XI. The management opted to include Sanju Samson to open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma. Meanwhile, India's match against West Indies is very crucial, as it will decide their place in the semi-finals.
