Pakistan name squad for Bangladesh ODIs, Babar Azam overlooked

The Pakistan Cricket Board has unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place in Dhaka from 11 to 15 March. The selection has sparked huge discussion largely due to the absence of star batter Babar Azam, who has been left out following a challenging run of form. The exclusion of Babar Azam follows his struggle during the recent T20 World Cup 2026, where he managed only 91 runs across four matches in the tournament.

Throughout 2025, Babar’s ODI performances also showed signs of decline. In 17 innings during the year, he accumulated 544 runs. Meanwhile, left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue to lead the side that includes experienced players Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Faheem Ashraf and Salman Ali Agha.

Pakistan have also handed maiden call-ups to Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan and Shamyl Hussain.

Pakistan squad: Shaheen Shah Afridi (c), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Hussain Talat, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (wk), Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha and Shamyl Hussain
