IPL 2026 set to begin on March 28

The next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 28, 2026. The announcement was confirmed by the tournament’s official broadcaster on Sunday. The start date was revealed shortly before the final of the Men's T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand.
The high-profile final took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where India clinched a 96-run win to win their third T20 World Cup title. While the opening date has been confirmed, the complete match schedule for IPL 2026 has not yet been released by league organisers.
The rest of the details, including the schedule, will be announced later. Heading into the 2026 season, the defending champions are Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won the 2025 title after a thrilling final against the Punjab Kings. Notably, a total of 10 teams will compete in the tournament for the coveted title.
