"There is both talent and system": Pakistan batter lauds India after T20 World Cup win

The 2026 T20 World Cup final saw India clinch a dominant 96-run win over New Zealand on Sunday in Ahmedabad to lift the prestigious title. India set the tone early in the match with an explosive batting display, piling up a mammoth total of 255 runs. Asked to bat, Indian batter Sanju Samson unleashed a brutal batting, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan also blasted 52 and 54, respectively, to help India maintain pressure throughout the innings. In their bowling attack, India were equally relentless, bowling New Zealand out for 159 runs and registering a 96-run victory in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.

In the wake of the men in blue's commanding win, former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad praised India’s aggressive mindset while simultaneously criticising the shortcomings in Pakistan’s cricketing system.

"Pakistan has a lot of talent. There is no lack of talent. The flaw is in our system. What is there in India? There is both talent and system. You can see that through talent and system, players are being produced. Who is this player? This is Sanju Samson, who never gets a chance. He has become the man of the series in the World Cup. This is Ishan Kishan, who rarely plays. Discipline is such that he was also put aside. He has just come here after performing in domestic cricket," Shehzad said on the Haarna Mana Hai show in Pakistan.

Shehwaz pointed out that India showed a clear determination to push beyond the 250-run mark rather than settling for a safe total. At the same time, he stated that a Pakistani side in a similar situation might have been satisfied with a total around 170 or 180 and relied on bowlers to defend it.

"You said that good teams peak at the right time. They said when they play, they will do 250. If we were there, we would have done 180. And after that, we would have said that we have done 180, let the bowlers defend. They don't do this," he said.
