Arshdeep Singh fined 15% match fee for Code of Conduct breach

India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been handed a fine of 15 per cent of his match fee after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the final of the Men's T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
The sanction was imposed after an incident in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings. While completing his follow-through, Arshdeep fielded the ball and threw it back toward the pitch, but the throw struck New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell. Arshdeep was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match."
In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Arshdeep’s disciplinary record. This is the first offence registered against the fast bowler within a 24-month period. The charge was levelled by the match officials, including on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf. They were supported by third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock. Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
