India’s victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup will be remembered for many defining moments; however, one of the most compelling narratives of the tournament was the perfect partnership between Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who both rose to the occasion at the right time. The duo produced performances that showed India’s aggressive batting and played a decisive role in the team’s title-winning campaign. Samson’s tournament began in a shaky fashion following a couple of tentative outings, raising questions about his role, and he even found himself briefly out of the playing XI.

However, as the tournament progressed, both players found their rhythm, delivering exceptional performances in the crucial games. Their most notable outing came in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad where Samson and Abhishek delivered a batting display, completely knocking down New Zealand’s plans within the first six overs.

Both players adopted an attacking approach, keeping New Zealand players under immense pressure. The pair stitched together a blistering 98-run opening partnership, leaving New Zealand in shambles. Recently, speaking on the performance and the partnership with Abhishek Sharma, Samson revealed the success behind it.

"We are not ice and fire, we are fire and fire. Sometimes he fires, sometimes I do. We have that kind of combination going. We have done this since 2024, we have a Kerala-Punjabi friendship in the middle. Everything comes pretty naturally to us, so we do not complicate it. He asks me, 'How is the ball coming?' I tell him that the ball is coming normally, hit it for a six. It is really simple with him. Abhishek is very brave and collected, I love his character. I really love the partnership with him on and off the field," Samson said at the India Today conclave.

Notably, Abhishek Sharma, who had struggled throughout the tournament, also registering three consecutive ducks, delivered an extremely exceptional performance, repaying the faith. Meanwhile, India scripted history, clinching a record-breaking third T20 World Cup title and becoming the first team to defend the title and win it on home soil.
