Australia’s rising allrounder Jack Edwards has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 after suffering a foot injury, handing a massive setback to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The seam-bowling allrounder had been picked up by Hyderabad for INR 3 crore (approximately $333,000) at the 2025 auction. His selection drew attention, as he was the only uncapped overseas player to secure a contract. Most importantly, IPL 2026 season was expected to mark his IPL debut. Edwards was riding high on success leading into the tournament with an impressive campaign in the Big Bash League 2025–26 season.

Representing the Sydney Sixers, he delivered consistent performances, picking up 19 wickets and contributing 133 runs across 13 matches. His performance was key in Sixers’ road to the final, where they were ultimately defeated by the Perth Scorchers. Following his BBL brilliance, Edwards made his international debut for Australia in a T20I against Pakistan in Perth.

However, the outing proved challenging; he went wicketless, conceding 25 runs in two overs, and managed five runs with the bat. Meanwhile, for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Edwards’ absence compounds the problems for SRH, who will be without the services of regular captain Pat Cummins, who is set to miss the start of the season due to a lumbar stress injury. In his absence, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will lead the sides in the first few games. SRH, however, have not named a replacement for Edwards yet.
