Shubman Gill overtakes Virat Kohli in ODI rankings

Indian captain Shubman Gill has jumped three places to claim the No. 2 spot in the ODI batting rankings, overtaking Virat Kohli. Gill is basking in the glow of staggering success as he recently captained India to an ODI series win against Afghanistan, where India swept the series 3-0. He also had exceptional outings with the bat, slamming 238 runs in three matches.
Notably, Kohli had missed the three-match series due to injury setbacks. Now, Gill has 791 points, just behind Daryl Mitchell, who occupies the top place with 815 points. In-form batter Ishan Kishan also made huge gains following his dynamic batting in the Afghanistan series. He jumped 21 spots to get to 43rd in the ODI batting rankings. Ishan Kishan amassed 143 runs in three matches. His tally of runs also included a century that he slammed in the second ODIs, scoring 125 off 79 balls.
England stalwart Joe Root rose to the top spot in the Test batting rankings, unsettling Harry Brook. Root recently served as the stand-in captain, leading England in the second Test against New Zealand following the absence of Ben Stokes.
