"Saw glimpses of Virat Kohli in him": Ex-Indian player lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal's composure

Former Indian cricketer batter Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal following Rajasthan Royals’ emphatic victory over Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2026 clash on Monday. While Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the show with a scintillating half-century, Chopra admired Jaiswal’s calm and selfless approach. Teen sensation Sooryavanshi's attacking innings set the tone for the chase, as he dismantled CSK's bowling attack with confidence, putting Rajasthan in control.

However, Chopra highlighted that Jaiswal’s contribution, though less flashy, was equally vital. Notably, the left-hander remained unbeaten on 38 off 36 deliveries. Chopra pointed out that Jaiswal managed to keep his ego in check. He even drew comparisons with Virat Kohli, noting that the youngster demonstrated an ability to focus on the bigger picture.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal showed a lot of maturity. He allowed the hitting to be done from the other end. We saw glimpses of Virat Kohli in him, that one needs to look at the larger picture, keep the ego aside, and not compete with the batter at the other end,” Chopra said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“The team needs to win, and if it’s possible to go as a red-inker, do that. Red-inker means a star against your name, which means unbeaten. Whoever has a star against his name more times, especially in a run chase, becomes a superstar. Yashasvi Jaiswal drove the game carefully. That was excellent,” he said.

Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, under the leadership of new captain Riyan Parag, kicked off their campaign on a winning note, gathering momentum early on in the tournament. Their next encounter is against Gujarat Titans on April 4 in Ahmedabad.
