IPL 2026, SRH vs LSG: Superstar Pant powers LSG to splendid win
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first victory of the IPL 2026 season with a super five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 157, LSG held their nerve in the closing stages to get over the line with captain Rishabh Pant, blasting a gutsy knock of 68 unbeaten.
After being asked to bat, SRH endured a disastrous start as LSG’s pace attack made early inroads. The top order crumbled under pressure, slipping to 11/3 inside the powerplay, with Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head falling cheaply. Mohammed Shami exploited the conditions brilliantly, dismissing both the openers.
A crucial recovery came through a counter-attacking partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Klaasen played a lovely knock of 62, while Reddy slammed 56, lifting SRH to a competitive total of 156/9 in 20 overs. Chasing the target, LSG were tested by SRH’s bowlers at regular intervals. However, contributions from the middle order kept the side in the chase. Captain Rishabh Pant led from the front with a composed innings, and a magnificent 45 off 27 from opener Aiden Markram played a key role in LSG's win.
