"We were just discussing": Gill on GT's nail-biting win against DC

Overcoming a tense situation, Gujarat Titans pulled off a stunningly magnificent victory over Delhi Capitals by one run on Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, sealing their first win of the IPL 2026 season. DC were on course for a thumping victory, with KL Rahul leading the charge with a blazing 92 off 52 balls. However, after Rahul's departure, DC lost the plot completely, finding themselves in a challenging situation.
Still, David Miller kept the side in the hunt, showing his power-hitting skills and slamming 41 off 20, but GT resisted Miller's assault to romp to an unimaginable win. The turning point came when DC, requiring two runs off Prasidh Krishna's final ball, saw Miller fail to hit a short slower delivery and GT's wicketkeeper Jos Buttler ran out Kuldeep Yadav at the other end to help GT clinch a narrow win. Following the victory, GT skipper Shubman Gill revealed the plan he had with Prasidh Krishna to control Capitals.
"We were just discussing whether to go for the yorker or to go for the slower one. But, you know, we decided that giving the wicket how it's playing, the slower one, if you bowl a good slower one, it'll be difficult to hit that for a boundary," he said in the post-match presentation.
"Definitely very pleased, you know, 210. We always thought on this wicket, we are 10-15 runs above par. It won't be like even when we were batting in the death, it wasn't easy to hit the big boundaries, just hitting, the slowness of the wicket. And we thought if we bowl well, you know, we should be able to win this one," Gill said.
Notably, David Miller declined a single on the penultimate delivery of the 20th over that would have helped DC equal the scores, trusting his ability. However, GT's Prasidh Krishna outfoxed Miller on the last delivery to power GT to a nervy win. Titans will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday in Lucknow.
