"I’ll hit two runs on the last ball": Ex-Indian player expresses disappointment over Miller's call

Delhi Capitals were left gutted after a demoralising one-run loss to Gujarat Titans in their ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match on Wednesday in Delhi. The highly talented David Miller, who had staged DC's courageous fightback with a fearless 41 off 20, failed to hit Prasidh Krishna's final delivery, which was a slower ball, costing DC the match.

Notably, DC had needed two runs off Krishna's final delivery, and David Miller, after turning down a single to Kuldeep Yadav at the other end, remained unsuccessful in his attempt to execute the final delivery that ended DC's unbeaten run in the tournament. Following DC's defeat, there has been huge pushback against David Miller for denying the single to Kuldeep Yadav on the penultimate delivery of the match that could have played a major role in the outcome of the match. Meanwhile, expressing his frustration, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh slammed Miller's decision to not take a single.

“He (David Miller) tried to play the hero and said no, I’ll hit two runs on the last ball. What happened after that? The last ball ended up being a dot ball, Kuldeep got run out, and the match they were set to win was lost. Gujarat Titans said, thank you very much, David Miller, because what you did made it feel like you are still part of GT,” Harbhajan Singh said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"From my understanding, it’s beyond me how this is even possible. What could have been going through his mind? It’s not that Kuldeep doesn’t know how to bat. But when pressure situations come, I’ve seen David Miller, and maybe it’s just his luck. He’s an excellent player, a very strong player. But I think the difference between a strong player and a great player is this: a great player finishes the match. And we’ve rarely seen David Miller finish matches. When we did see him do it, he helped Gujarat Titans win the title. But today he was very sad because he knew a mistake had been made. That mistake cost them two points," he said.

Earlier, DC were well established in their chase, with opener KL Rahul setting the side off to a strong start with a consequential innings of 92. However, his departure nosedived DC's chase briefly before David Miller counterattacked to put the side back into the game. But the final-ball thriller cost DC their first loss of the tournament. Nonetheless, DC will take on Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday in Lucknow.
