Moises Henriques retires from Australian domestic cricket
Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques has retired from Australian domestic cricket. Moises, who announced his first-class retirement in March 2025, led Sydney Sixers to the final of the BBL earlier this year in January; however, he was not given a contract for the upcoming season of the BBL, following which he decided to end his career with 154 BBL matches under his belt.
Henriques has played in all 15 BBL seasons, leaving as the most capped player for Australian domestic teams. During his international career, he represented Australia in four Tests, 16 ODIs and 24 T20Is. His last appearance for Australia in international cricket came in 2021.
"I had interest from other BBL teams, but it just didn't feel right to go elsewhere. After a bit of deliberation, I've decided it's time for me to call stumps on my BBL career and playing commitments with NSW ... and start looking forward to the next chapter of my life," Moises Henriques said.
"I have been very fortunate to call cricket my job for the past 22 years as a professional athlete. To the people I've been fortunate enough to play with and work alongside, I'd like to thank you. If it weren't for those relationships and the deep care I have for them, I'm sure I would have reached this day much earlier," he said.
Henriques finishes as the Sixers' highest run-scorer with 3,410 runs to his name. Next month, Henriques will appear for Portugal, the country of his birth, in a European qualifying tournament for the 2028 T20 World Cup.
