Gurnoor Brar pulled up for code of conduct breach
India pacer Gurnoor Brar has been given a warning after breaching level one of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI between England and India in Birmingham. Brar was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and or dangerous manner during an international match.”
In addition, Brar has also received one demerit point, which is part of his disciplinary record, making it his first offence in a 24-month period.
The incident unfolded in the eighth over during England's innings when Brar picked up the ball while fielding and threw it toward the batter. As per the ICC, Brar admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees; as a result, there will be no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth official Russell Warren levelled the charge.
Meanwhile, Gurnoor enjoyed a successful outing in the first game, returning with two wickets and playing a major role in India's six-wicket win.
