IPL 2026: CSK collide with MI in IPL's fiercest rivalry

Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are set to face off at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday in the Indian Premier League’s fiercest rivalry. With a legacy of ten IPL titles, five each, these two teams have been the most successful in the Indian Premier League. However, the current season has been the most challenging as they find themselves in unfamiliar situations. For CSK, in particular, the season has not quite got going, still searching for the consistency and aura that defined their 2023 title-winning campaign.

MI, too, have faced similar inconsistencies. Mumbai Indians, however, come into this match with confidence. After enduring four consecutive defeats, they found their spark in Ahmedabad with a commanding 99-run victory over the Gujarat Titans. The performance was a collective statement, bolstered by the return to form of Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma. Still, MI have concerns around Suryakumar Yadav, whose inconsistency has been a big setback.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, have had a more turbulent run. Three consecutive losses, followed by two wins at home, and then another disappointing defeat away have totally worsened things for them. Notably, CSK are yet to secure a victory on the road this season, making their upcoming game at Wankhede an opportunity to turn the tables. Injuries have further complicated matters for Chennai. The loss of Khaleel Ahmed weakened their pace attack, but the bigger setback came with Ayush Mhatre being ruled out for the remainder of the season.
