Babar Azam ruled out of 1st Bangladesh Test with knee injury
Pakistan have suffered a major setback ahead of their opening Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka, as star batter Babar Azam has been ruled out with a left knee injury. The match is scheduled to begin on Friday, but the former captain will not take part after experiencing discomfort during the team’s preparations.
According to a statement released by Pakistan’s team management, Babar’s condition is currently being monitored by the medical panel.
"Pakistan batter Babar Azam will not be available for the first Test match against Bangladesh due to an injury in left knee," PCB said in a statement.
"The team's medical panel is currently assessing his condition. Further updates will be shared in due course," it added.
The timing of the injury is incredibly frustrating, as Babar had recently rediscovered his rhythm with the bat during the latest edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. Representing Peshawar Zalmi, Babar finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer and played a key role in helping the side clinch the PSL title.
