R Ashwin backs Bhuvneshwar Kumar to return to team India after heroic performance against MI

Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin has called for Bhuvneshwar Kumar's inclusion into the Indian T20I team following his glittering performance during RCB's match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday in Raipur. Bhuvneshwar not only stole the show with ball but also with the bat, launching RCB to a stunning two-wicket win.
After helping RCB restrict MI to 166/7 with a four-wicket haul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar blasted a six over extra cover off the fourth ball of the final over to help RCB seal a tense win and put MI out of the playoff contention.
"I would love to see him being considered for the T20I side. Tick with the new ball, able to complete the death overs nicely, and if you need a six under pressure, he is hammering that as well in the toughest part of the ground. That was proper Test-match bowling after he realised there was something in the surface. He keeps testing you as an opening batter,” Ashwin said.
Talking about RCB's chase, they had a horrible start after their experienced stars Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar departed in quick succession, leaving RCB scrambling for runs. However, Krunal Pandya stepped up with a timely 73-run knock to revive RCB's chase.
After his dismissal, Rasikh Salam and Bhuvneshwar Kumar held their nerve to make the victory possible for RCB. As for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, so far in IPL 2026, he has featured in 11 matches, claiming 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.46 and an impressive bowling average of 15.28. Notably, Kumar last appeared for India during the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England at Adelaide.
