CSK's Jamie Overturn heads home for injury assessment

Chennai Super Kings's IPL 2026 campaign has been disrupted by a fresh injury concern, with England all-rounder Jamie Overton returning to England due to a right thigh injury. This is a serious blow to CSK’s hopes of making a late surge into the top four.
CSK confirmed Overton’s departure ahead of their major away fixture against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday. However, CSK did not clarify the exact timeline for his recovery or whether he would miss the remainder of the tournament.
"Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management," CSK stated on social media.
Overton’s absence will be a massive setback for CSK as he has been their reliable performer with 14 wickets. Moreover, he is their second-highest wicket-taker this season. Notably, Overton’s injury is not the only setback CSK have suffered; they have also lost their promising stars Nathan Ellis, Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mhatre to injuries. Currently, CSK are perched fifth in the points table with six wins in 11 games and they are still in the race for playoffs.
