Sarah Taylor appointed fielding coach of England men’s Test side

Former England women’s wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor has been appointed as the fielding coach of England’s men’s Test side for the upcoming series against New Zealand. The landmark appointment makes Taylor the first woman to join the senior England men’s coaching setup in an official role. Taylor will work with the squad on a short-term basis during the home Test series against New Zealand, which commences at Lord's Cricket Ground on June 4. She has been brought in to cover for regular fielding coach Carl Hopkinson, who is currently involved with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. During his playing career, Sarah represented England in 226 international matches between 2006 and 2019. She also played an instrumental role in England’s victories in the 2009 Women’s World Cup and the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup.
“I just think she’s one of the best in the business at what she does. She’s been outstanding, and she’s worked a lot with Andrew Flintoff and Ed Barney (performance director). They can’t speak highly enough of her. So from what we can see, she’s one of the best in the business,” Key told the media on Wednesday.
Over the past few years, she has gradually built her coaching reputation through roles with Sussex County Cricket Club, Manchester Originals, and the England Lions programme.
