Ravi Shastri backs Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for early India call-up

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has urged national selectors to take a fearless approach and fast-track teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the senior Indian setup. The teen prodigy has been one of the tremendous stars in Indian cricket after a sensational run of performances over the past few months. His breathtaking performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League have made him a formidable star.
Appearing for Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi has taken on some of the world’s best bowlers with extraordinary confidence. His most memorable knock came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he smashed a stunning century off 36 balls. In 11 innings, Sooryavanshi has piled up 440 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 236.56. Shastri believed that the Ireland tour could be a perfect platform for his debut. Notably, team India will travel to Ireland in June for 2 T20Is.
“A lot of people will ask, is he 15, is he 16, is he 14? I don't care. I just see the way he is batting at the moment and the way he's taking on all comers twice his age or maybe two and a half times his age. It doesn't matter to him," Shastri said on The ICC Review.
“So I think he's very, very much in the reckoning. And when you have tours of Ireland [in June for 2 T20Is] and all this happening now, I would be looking into him straight away."
“I can tell you that, for sure, because if you want to encourage or get someone young and into the setup as quickly as possible, then it's the T20 format of the game, and he is not short by any margin.
Shastri believes that players with such rare talent should not be made to wait too long for international opportunities.
“This guy can walk into a lot of sides in world cricket at this current moment in time. Just when you look at the exuberance of youth, that youth shows on his face."
