BAN vs PAK, 2nd Test: Bangladesh claim historic series win over Pakistan

Bangladesh, showing nerves to script history, completed a historic 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan on Wednesday in Sylhet following a 78-run win over the visitors in the second Test. Taijul Islam was the hero for Bangladesh, engineering a stunning revival with a six-wicket haul to bowl Pakistan out for 358 in their chase of 437. A formidable knock from Mohammad Rizwan had threatened to take the game away from Bangladesh, but once he fell, Bangladesh took total control of the match, wrapping up Pakistan's innings in the first session itself.
Rizwan fought hard with an impressive 94; however, the mounting pressure and a strangling bowling attack from Bangladesh's bowlers made it difficult for him to break the shackles. On day four on Tuesday, blazing knocks from Shan Masood and Salman Agha, scoring 71 each, had dragged Pakistan into day five after Bangladesh had limited them to 316/7 by stumps. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, on day 1 after being asked to bat, had piled up a superb total of 278 in their first innings, thanks to a magnificent knock of 126 from Litton Das.
In reply, Pakistan had managed 232 in their first innings, largely built around Babar Azam's spirited 68. The real turning point came when Bangladesh put Pakistan bowlers on the ropes in their second innings, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das slamming indispensable knocks of 137 and 69, respectively. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy also added a significant 52 to take Bangladesh to 390, helping them set an imposing target of 437.
Notably, this victory also marks a historic moment for Bangladesh, as they have now won four Test series on the bounce. It was also Bangladesh’s maiden Test series win against Pakistan on home soil. This was also Bangladesh's second consecutive series sweep over Pakistan after they dominated them with a 2-0 whitewash on Pakistani soil in 2024.
