Nahida Akter named Bangladesh’s new T20I captain

Bangladesh have appointed experienced left-arm spinner Nahida Akter as their new women’s T20l captain. The 25-year-old star has been handed a one-year tenure. She succeeds Nigar Sultana, who served as captain in 82 matches and guided the side to 32 victories. Sobhana Mostary has been her deputy.
Sultana recently stepped down from the role in the wake of disappointing performances in the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. As for Nahida, she has played 113 T20Is for Bangladesh, taking 132 wickets.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Nahida, the new captain of the T20I team. I wish her all the best in this new role. I believe she will play an important role in taking the team forward with her ability and leadership,” former captain Nigar Sultana Joty wrote on facebook handle.
Nahida’s first major assignment will come at the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 next month, where she will commence her tenure. Nahida, meanwhile, also holds the record of being Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is.
