Andrew Fintoff named Sydney Thunder head coach

Former England all-rounder and great Andrew Flintoff has been named the new head coach of Sydney Thunder men's team. The England legend has inked a two-year deal with the franchise and will take over from Trevor Bayliss, who departed the franchise earlier this year in February after a five-season tenure.
The change at the top comes at a crucial time for Sydney Thunder, who endured a highly disappointing campaign at the BBL15, winning only two games and finishing at the bottom of the standings. Notably, Flintoff is not new to the BBL, having already featured in the tournament as a player for Brisbane Heat in BBL|04 back in 2015. Meanwhile, this will be his first coaching stint outside England. However, Flintoff has coached Northern Superchargers in The Hundred competition, leading them for two seasons across 2024 and 2025.
"I can't wait to get over there and get started. I'm looking at this with a lot of optimism. You look at the franchise, you look at the players, you look at the support, and I think there's something really big to build on," Flintoff said in a statement released by the club.
During his time as an international player, Flintoff represented England in 227 matches across all the three formats.
