The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of the Indian T20I side for the upcoming white-ball assignments against Ireland and England. The announcement came on Saturday, as the board unveiled squads for the tour of England and Ireland, as well as the Asian Games 2026 campaign. The notable inclusion in the squad is teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The young sensation has been rewarded for his brilliant performances in the IPL with a maiden call-up to the senior national team. In the IPL 2026, he amassed 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30. The teenage sensation has created history by becoming the youngest player named in an Indian men's squad since Sachin Tendulkar made his breakthrough in the late 1980s. Rinku Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, both members of India's successful T20 World Cup-winning squad, have not been included for the upcoming series.
