Women's T20 World Cup: Australia, West Indies lock horns in semi-final showdown

Australia will face West Indies women in the first semi-final of the Women's World Cup on Tuesday at The Oval. Australia are brimming with confidence after having a dominant campaign in the group stage, winning all five of their matches with impressive consistency. They beat India by six wickets to advance to the semi-final, with Ellyse Perry (56 off 38) and Ash Gardner (53* off 29) helping the team chase the target of 171 in 19 overs.

One of Australia's biggest strengths throughout the tournament has been the depth of their batting lineup. The most positive thing for them has been the ability of their players to rise to the occasion whenever needed. Ellyse Perry has been the most consistent batter, accumulating 183 runs across five innings. Players like Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll have also played their part.

On the other hand, West Indies' road to the semi-finals has been quite bumpy. Following their disappointing defeat to Ireland, they had to rely on England's victory over New Zealand to secure a place in the final four. Now they will look to come back strongly to assert their authority. It has been a good tournament for captain Hayley Matthews, who remains incredibly vital for West Indies. Although she has not been up to the standards in the batting department, she has made a meaningful impact with the ball.

Experienced all-rounder Deandra Dottin will also be expected to step up in this must-win game. Shemaine Campbelle, Chinelle Henry and Stafanie Taylor have been promising with the bat and would hope for another standout outing.
