"Are you kidding me": Former Indian cricketer lambasts Samson's exclusion from 2nd T20I against England

Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his much-anticipated international debut during the second T20I against England last week on Saturday, becoming the youngest-ever batter to do so. The 15-year-old kid surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut when he was 16 years old, to create history. Sooryavanshi, who is known to smash big sixes, during his brief stay blasted two sixes in his 14-run knock before being stumped by Jos Buttler.
Notably, the young gun's debut came at the cost of Sanju Samson, who was dropped by the management to accommodate Sooryavanshi at the top of the order. Samson's axing occurred amid a stark dip in his form in the past three games, registering scores of 5, 0 and 1, respectively. However, his exclusion garnered massive attention because he has been a major part of India's batting lineup over the past year or so.
Not only that, his performance also played a key role in India's title win at the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar slammed India's decision to leave Sanju Samson out of the second T20I, calling it the most bizarre selection.
"Great to see Vaibhav in India colours," Manjrekar wrote on X.
"But what about Samson! Dropped?? Are you kidding me! No, I guess, injured. Let's hope it's injury. Or it's the most bizarre selection. Could have easily batted at 3 if you wanted to get Vaibhav in," he added.
Talking about the ongoing series against England, India have not been able to match the intensity shown by England. The first T20I was disrupted by heavy rainfall, and in the second game they crashed to a four-wicket defeat, going 0-1 down in the series. The men in blue are already reeling from a historic 0-2 series defeat against Ireland in the preceding two-match series. The third T20I between India and England will be held on Tuesday at Trent Bridge.
