"Are you kidding me?": Ex-Indian player slams India's call to promote Harshit Rana in the 3rd T20I against England

Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik slammed India's decision to promote pacer Harshit Rana ahead of hard-hitting all-rounder Shivam Dube during their biggest defeat to England in the third T20I on Tuesday at Trent Bridge. Chasing a target of 202, India were bowled out for 76 following a devastating batting display.

From the very start, the men in blue remained in a miserable situation, losing five wickets inside the first six overs, with players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma departing for low scores. Amid the horrible collapse, the management took a bold decision by sending Harshit Rana ahead of Shivam Dube after Axar Patel's dismissal. However, the decision quickly received a negative reaction from Dinesh Kartik, who expressed his disappointment over the call. Notably, Harshit Rana, despite coming to bat early, couldn't make any difference, losing his wicket for 9 off 13. Shivam Dube, on the other hand, departed for 2 off 4, with India slumping to their second-lowest total in T20I history.

"Harshit Rana coming to bat before Shivam Dube, are you kidding me? I don't even think Harshit Rana has ever batted in the powerplay, even in domestic cricket," Karthik said during the commentary.

"You can get the left-right combination working in T20 cricket, but only up to a point. Not Harshit Rana ahead of Shivam Dube," he added.

Meanwhile, England's Josh Tongue (4-28) and Jofra Archer (3-29), with a decisive bowling attack, demolished India's batting lineup, not allowing the tourists to have any say in the proceedings. In their batting, England got off to a rough start before Phil Salt accelerated the innings with a speedy 70 off 44, top-scoring for England. Sam Curran added a crucial 44 while Jos Buttler, smacking 36 off 21, also played a noteworthy knock.
