Jonathan Trott joins Ireland as short-term consultant ahead of Afghanistan ODIs
Jonathan Trott has been roped in by Cricket Ireland in a temporary consultancy role as the men's team prepares for an important home assignment against Afghanistan. The board confirmed that Trott will remain in the role over the next two weeks working closely with the Ireland squad.
His role will focus on supporting the team's preparations ahead of the five-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which begins on August 5 in Bready. Trott is highly experienced, having had a successful spell as Afghanistan's head coach. During his tenure, he played a big role in transforming Afghanistan into one of the most competitive sides.
One of the most notable achievements of Trott's tenure came at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where Afghanistan reached the semi-finals for the first time in the tournament's history. Meanwhile, the five-match ODI series between Ireland and Afghanistan is scheduled to get underway on August 5 at Bready.
