Virat Kohli shares heartfelt tribute as Ajinkya Rahane retires from international cricket
Indian batting star Virat Kohli paid a lovely tribute to veteran Indian star Ajinkya Rahane, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday. Virat Kohli described Rahane as his "favourite Test batting partner" highlighting the great understanding they shared at the crease. Both batters shared many memorable partnerships. One of their great achievements came during the Test against New Zealand in Indore, where they forged a magnificent 365-run partnership. Kohli produced a commanding double century, scoring 211, while Rahane delivered the best innings of his Test career with a superb 188.
Meanwhile, Rahane represented India from 2011 to 2023, featuring in 85 Test matches, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is. His most notable achievement came when he led India to a memorable 2-1 series victory in Australia in 2020-21 during the Border Gavaskar Trophy series.
“Jinks, congratulations on a great career, buddy. You’ve done wonders for Indian cricket, and you can be very proud of your journey. The safest pair of hands in the slips and my favourite Test batting partner. Wishing you well always. God bless,” Kohli wrote on X.
Former Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma also lauded Rahane’s commitment and hard work.
“We’ve shared the dressing room for so many years, and I know how much hard work has gone into everything you’ve achieved. Your commitment and professionalism have always set you apart. Congratulations on a wonderful career. Best wishes!" Rohit wrote on X.
