ICC overturns Gaddafi Stadium demerit point

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has overturned the demerit point earlier given to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium following Pakistan’s third ODI against Australia earlier this year in June. The venue had been penalised after the match surface was rated “unsatisfactory” by the ICC match referee. Now, with an appeal panel reviewing the conditions of the pitch used during the third ODI, the ICC has given a decisive verdict.

It was also the first demerit point ever issued to Gaddafi Stadium, following a match in which spin dominated proceedings while batting remained utterly challenging. In the match, Australia were dismissed for 157 in 42 overs, with every Pakistan bowler getting help on turning conditions. Pakistan also struggled during the chase before going over the line in 41.5 overs, scoring 161/6.

"While the match referee adhered to the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process guidelines, the pitch did not exhibit excessive unevenness or spin,” the ICC said in a statement.

As of now, the latest ruling by the ICC clears the Lahore venue of the sanction, and it now has zero demerit points.
