“Everyone is worried”: Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas on team’s disappointing performance
England completed a tremendous 194-run win over Pakistan in the second Test on Sunday at Lord’s to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. Pakistan toiled hard to limit the damage; however, England’s advantage that they took during the first innings remained a massive challenge for Pakistan to overcome.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas was the shining star, finishing the match with nine wickets. Earlier in the day, Abbas completed a five-wicket haul that earned him a place on the famous Lord’s honours board. Meanwhile, Pakistan, chasing a target of 389, were overpowered by England pacers, bowling the visitors out for 194. Pakistan’s struggles were not only limited to their bowling and batting but also in their fielding, where they dropped a few crucial catches. Speaking after the match, Abbas touched upon Pakistan’s disappointing performance, admitting that the side is not doing well.
"Our performance is a concern for everyone. Everyone is worried, including selection committee and the NCA. We're not doing well, we accept that. We're not batting, bowling or fielding well and we discuss this all the time in meetings. We're all working on it and we need to be, too,” Abbas said at the press conference.
Abbas also spoke about the team's fielding woes that also contributed to their defeat.
"We dropped catches and their key players scored 70-odd extra runs. That's where the match changed because we could have bowled them out for 200. So certainly, we are working on those things,” Abbas said.
