Pakistan players Rizwan and Imam questioned by NCCIA
Pakistan players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, according to reports, appeared before the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore. Both players were summoned by the agency and appeared on Thursday as questions pertaining to Pakistan’s disappointing Test campaign in England continued to grow.
Meanwhile, the reason for questioning has not been publicly established. According to reports, at least one of the players is understood to have spent several hours at the agency. It also remains unclear whether the proceedings is with respect to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) internal disciplinary inquiry announced earlier this week.
Notably, Rizwan and Imam were among seven players removed from Pakistan's squad following the team's defeat in the second Test at Lord's. The changes came after a tumultuous start to the Test series as Pakistan were beaten heavily in the opening match by an innings and 103 runs before crashing to another big defeat at Lord's, where England secured a 194-run victory.
In the wake of back-to-back losses, PCB made surprise changes to the squad, sending seven home. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their positions.
