“Doesn't matter”: Deepti Sharma says India not worried about Asia Cup final opponent
India women have claimed their spot in the Women's Asia Cup final, maintaining their impressive record of appearing in every final of the tournament. They beat Bangladesh in the first semi-final on Thursday to storm into the final of the tournament. The Indian team is now waiting for their opponent, which will be confirmed through the second semi-final that will be played between defending champions Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women on Friday, with the winner earning the place in the final.
Notably, in the 2024 edition, Sri Lanka ended India's campaign in the final. If Sri Lanka win against Pakistan, then India would have an opportunity to settle the score and clinch the title. However, Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has made it clear that the team is focused on their own preparation rather than worrying about whether Sri Lanka or Pakistan will win the semi-final 2.
"Actually, it depends on their result, but the Indian team is knowing about that. Team doesn't take any team lightly. Doesn't matter, like maybe Sri Lanka, Pakistan, whoever comes in the final. We always think as a team how we can do better in each and every game. As a collective team performance, how we can do better. So that's what…,” Deepti Sharma said at the press conference after India’s win over Bangladesh.
Against Bangladesh, India delivered a powerful performance, as they limited Bangladesh to 109/7 in 20 overs. So far, India have been unbeaten in the tournament, remaining highly disciplined across all departments. India had also delivered a resounding performance against Pakistan women during the group stage clash. They folded Pakistan women for 55 before chasing the target in 8.4 overs.
