Hardik Pandya suffers fresh injury setback, doubtful for New Zealand series

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has encountered a fresh roadblock in his return to international cricket after he suffered a fresh injury setback. Pandya, who has been away from action since the end of the 2026 IPL season, was gearing up to make his comeback through India A’s three-match one-day series against Australia A.
He had been named in the squad for the games in Puducherry, scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11. However, his participation remained subject to fitness clearance. According to reports, Pandya has suffered a fresh injury to his right shin which will keep him out of action for around two weeks.
“This is very unfortunate, but Hardik’s latest scan reports have revealed an injury to his right shin. He has been advised complete rest for a period of two weeks. BCCI’s medical panel head Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala has seen his reports and, on his return from Japan, will assess him and decide when he can start his rehab," a BCCI source said while speaking to PTI.
Pandya was eyeing September 20 as his return-to-play date, with the Australia A assignment giving him his first competitive outing following a long period on the sidelines. This is a big blow to India as well because India’s white-ball tour of New Zealand begins later in October, involving the five-match T20I series, which is scheduled to start on October 22, followed by the ODI leg of the tour.
Notably, Pandya has been a victim of injuries in recent times, interrupting his presence in team India. He had dealt with back spasms during the IPL before a leg problem kept him out of India’s white-ball assignments. Now, this shin issue has further complicated the things for him.
