Josh Inglis ruled out of South Africa ODIs with finger injury
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the remainder of Australia’s ongoing ODI series against South Africa after suffering a fractured right index finger. Inglis picked up the injury during the opening ODI in Durban while performing his wicketkeeping duties.
Even after copping the blow, he stayed on the field and kept the wickets. Later he also came out to bat during Australia’s innings. Coming in at no. 4 during the chase, he managed three runs from eight deliveries. Now, further assessment has confirmed the severity of the injury, forcing Inglis out of the remaining two ODIs.
The second match is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on September 27, and the third match will be played in Potchefstroom on September 30. This injury also puts Inglis’ participation in Australia's upcoming Test assignment against South Africa in doubt because he has less than two weeks to get back to full fitness.
The three-match Test series is due to begin in Durban on October 9. Meanwhile, according to Cricket Australia, Inglis would head to Perth for treatment, and his availability for the Test series will be subject to further assessment and progress.
