Indian great Virat Kohli confirms 2027 ODI World Cup will be his last for India
With the ODI World Cup 2027 approaching fast, Indian batting legend Virat Kohli has confirmed that next year's global event would be his last for India. Virat Kohli, who has retired from the Test and T20Is, continues to make himself available in the ODIs, and his sole aim is to help India win the World Cup and lift the trophy.
So far, Virat Kohli has represented India at four ODI World Cups, starting with the victorious 2011 campaign on home soil. Overall, Kohli has scored 14,941 runs in 302 ODI innings, averaging 58.59. His mountain of runs includes 54 centuries and 79 fifties, with a career-best score of 183.
"The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything. Because now, it's about 10 games at a T20 level of intensity. But you are playing 2.5 T20 games in one day. And to maintain that intensity for 10 games in a big tournament and World Cup is a big deal. Also now, it's in foreign conditions. It takes a lot out of you. For me, it's the last World Cup I'm going to play for India. And that is my motivation. Like, you know, to leave everything out there. And of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup. And whatever it takes, I'm absolutely ready,” Kohli told JioHotstar.
In 37 World Cup matches, Kohli has racked up 1,795 runs at an average of 59.83. His record includes five centuries and 12 half-centuries. Meanwhile, he will now be seen in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies starting on Sunday.
